Burger Filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Batter:

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs

Assembly & Cooking:

  • 6 hot dog sausages
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the Burger Mixture:
Combine ground beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well and shape into 6 patties.
  • Wrap the Sausages:
Flatten each patty and wrap it around a hot dog sausage, sealing it completely.
  • Make the Batter:
In a mixing bowl, whisk cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, buttermilk, and eggs until smooth.
  • Dip and Fry:
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Dip each wrapped sausage into the batter, coating it evenly. Fry in batches for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drain and Serve:
Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or ranch for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños to the burger mixture.
  • Ensure the oil temperature stays consistent for even frying.
